Diaper Rash

The best cure for diaper rash is prevention. Change your baby’s diaper as soon as possible after each bowel movement or wetting. Wash the area with plain water. Apply diaper- rash cream or VASELINE® as needed. We recommend DESITIN® diaper cream when needed.

Some babies are prone to diaper rash. The following suggestions may help:

  1. Leave diaper off for about fifteen to twenty minutes four times daily to air-dry the area.
  2. Substitute cloth diapers if you’re using disposable.
  3. Use a mild soap to wash the diapers, and add a half-cup of white vinegar to the final rinse cycle.
  4. Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
  5. If the rash contains “whiteheads” or pus, wash the area two to three times daily with a mild soap and apply ointment. If the rash is extensive or develops yellow crusts, call the office for further advice.
